Message from the Principal
On behalf of the Academy, it is with a great sense of happiness that I extend to all of you, this evening, a very warm welcome to “Flight of Flamboyance”.
Occasions such as this are very important and significant to students, in their long journey of preparation of their personalities, to meet the gruelling demands of life ahead. As individuals, we move in a constant spotlight of attention, where from an early age what we say and do is noticed and recorded, measured and judged. In the light of this, our need to communicate effectively and sensitively has never been greater.
While sensitising the young in a focused manner to this beautiful aspect of the arts, which we call drama, a public performance such as this will also provide the young, an opportunity for their latent talents to surface and take root, blossom and bloom. Much preparation and hard work has gone into making this day a reality and it has been particularly heartening to observe our students work together with their teachers to do justice to the teaching and learning of English and Drama at our Academy.
A competent knowledge of English in order to achieve success in any chosen field cannot be underestimated or disputed. In view of this, we take great pride that we have restored English to its rightful place. Having the facilities, the atmosphere and the deep dedication of highly motivated and committed members of our staff, which our students have taken advantage of, we are also happy to place on record our success in the teaching of English and Drama in its many forms. This is amply reflected in the results of the examinations conducted by the Trinity College of London and the Colombo Academy of Language Skills and Dramatic Art [CALSDA].
May I take this opportunity to thank all our dear students, teachers, parents and the many well-wishers, who gave us their unstinted support in numerous ways. I also wish to thank our sponsors, donors, advertisers and you the audience for your gracious presence. May the good Lord bless and keep you all in his protective gaze.

It was many years ago, on my first visit to Sri Lanka, that I met Mrs. Varuni Jayasekara and was immediately impressed by the quality of her teaching in the field of Speech, Drama and Communication Skills. Her creativity and knowledge of literature are a key factor in the consistently high standard of the students that graduate from her Academy in which the young performers learn, not only a secure foundation in the Performing Arts, but also essential skills and confidence to convey them into all walks of life, whatsoever career they choose to follow.
